Realm Code
RealmCode, an adventure in a world where magic is code
A magical evil has created a breach in the magic of your garden - can you code it back to health?
Note: there is a small visual bug, enter full screen (bottom right) and exit to fix it - so far can't find a workaround.
Note: coding knowledge is required, as the form of magic is based on it.
Controls: WASD movement, mouse look around, click on editor lines to write, arrow keys in editor to move, SPACE for something secret to do later.
Hint: you have to find the books and complete the code to lift the curse on objects. After that you will have to embed some code in your own code.
I wanted to prove to myself I can finish a game, I did not want to choose something boring or random, I like magic, I like scripting, and based on the theme "Glitch in the system", I figured make like a parasite in the code that lives. Based on that, we have this game. It has been tremendeously hard, I learned PlayCanvas from scratch, choose it because I like javascript and ECS, and didn't want to wait for unity to build scripts, so, I worked on it like crazy for 7 days, limited my scope, added all the components for it to feel polished (I almost never add music to my games because I don't deal with music, but I did it for this once). It has been great, I feel proud of myself for finally doing this. And it's true what they say, no game is ever finished, only abandoned.
Made with PlayCanvas.

It was so much fun! I even managed to fall off the map))
omg thank you, I am so happy to hear people are having fun :)))
Tried to play this as part of the gamejam, couldnt realy do so cause I don't know programing but ill try to be fair
The visuals are quite nice, I can tell they was effort put into them, but the notebook is obsured by the ith.io ui.
Overall very interesting concpet that /i think could be made into a cool jam, not sure it works for a gamejam though. 6/10
I think you could add controls and also a little tutorial on "how to code" on the description. That would help a lot :)
The concept of altering yourself with code is very interesting. I can easily see this being integrated into a larger game, where you accumulate more and more changes. At one point, when the code determines most of your actions, you’ll have to ask yourself whether you’re more AI than human.
Maybe instead of locked lines, there could be color coding. To see red code lines, you’d need to wear red glasses. To modify them, you’d also need to find a red pencil. At the end, you might end up with polychromic glasses and an artist’s suitcase full of crayons, ready to change the DNA of anything you come across.
A little bit more polish would’ve been nice, it took me some time to figure out that I needed to click the coins to actually get them, but that’s to be expected from jam games.
Congratulations on your release!
Looking forward to your next games :)
OMG Thank you, this made my day! :) thank you so much. Good point about the coins, I will add a hint.
